Below is a selection of books I read in 2025 that I want to highlight and commend. The titles listed here span a variety of topics, but each has proven helpful to many Christians already this year and will continue to serve believers well for years to come. I’ve included links for each book below, along with the titles that we have published through Courier Publishing this year.
A Light on the Hill by Caleb Morell (I do not remember the last time I sat down to read a book and became so engaged. I came away from this book marveling at the grace of God at work in this congregation. Though I have never been to Capitol Hill Baptist Church, I have greatly benefited from many of her members and pastors. This is one of the best books I have read in a long time, and Caleb is a phenomenal writer.)
A Heart Aflame for God: A Reformed Approach to Spiritual Formation by Matthew Bingham (Necessary volume in the age that we live. If you didn’t read it in ’25, pick it up and put it on the list for 2026.)
Reaching Your Child’s Heart: A Practical Guide to Faithful Parenting by Juan and Jeanine Sanchez (This was published in 2024 and I read it in 2025. My wife and I found this book to be both encouraging and practically helpful.)
Tim Keller on the Christian Life: The Transforming Power of the Gospel by Matt Smethurst (One of my favorite authors, Matt Smethurst, has written a thoughtful work on the life and teachings of Tim Keller, a man whose ministry has been significant.)
Prophet, Priest, King: The Three Offices of Christ by R. Albert Mohler, Jr. (This volume is clear and concise on the person and work of Jesus.)
Theonomy Old and New: A Reformed Baptist Assessment by Sam Waldron and Tom Hicks (An important and ongoing discussion regarding theonomy, this will be a helpful read for pastors.)
Creation: An Introduction by Tyler Wittman (I think every book in the short studies in Systematic Theology should be read. This is no exception!)
A Unity of Purpose: 100 Years of the SBC Cooperative Program by Tony Wolfe and W. Madison Grace (I highly recommend reading Dr. Duesing’s article in this volume. Tony Wolfe and Madison Grace did a great job in editing this work.)
Equipped to Evangelize: A Biblical Foundation by Rob Ventura (Pastor Rob lays out the importance of Evangelism.)
Happy Lies by Melissa Dougherty (This book helps to expose the errors of New Thought. If you are not familar with New Thought, pick it up.)
Life After Roe: Equpping Christians in the Fight for Life Today by David Closson (David has made this work accesible so that any Christian can pick this up, understand the fight, and be equipped).
Tell Your Catholic Friend: How to Have Gospel Conversations with Love by Leonardo De Chirico (Do you have a Catholic friend or family? If so, this will help you.)
Prioritizing Missions in the Church by Aaron Menikoff and Harshit Singh (This is the first title in a series of Church Centered Missions by 9marks. I think this volume and those that follow will help all churches of all sizes be engaged in taking the Gospel to all nations.)
In the Midst of the Years: A History of Reformation and Revival in America by Tom Nettles (Nettles has written another tremendous volume and this one is on various revivals in the history of the United States.)
Charles Simeon: Parish Pastor by Zack DiPrima (Zack has provided us with a richly engaging volume on the life and ministry of Charles Simeon.)
Nicea for Today: Why An Ancient Creed (Still) Matters by Coleman Ford and Shawn Wilhite (This year marks the 1700 year anniversary of the Nicene Creed. Read this book.)
Connecting Scripture New Testament (Ben Gladd, CSB, and the Lifeway team have produced a phenomenal resource to help the Church)
